Best Replacement Meal Shakes Ever

Have you ever tried a replacement meal shake only to find that they taste...............well............yucky?

We all know that replacement meal shakes have a purpose - to provide  easily absorbed nutrition and high quality protein in one single punch - but why oh why do they all have to taste so bad???

Well not anymore.  My kids, (the pickiest kids on the planet) ask for a protein shake EVERY DAY for breakfast.  They like one scoop of chocolate with one scoop of vanilla and a sprinkle of fat-free/sugar-free white chocolate pudding mix.  You just mix it all up with ice and water and presto!  A yummy nutritionally dense replacement meal shake in less than 30 seconds. (And so much healthier than a toaster pastry strudel)!

I wish I would have known about these shakes when my dad was sick with cancer.   The hospital used to feed him those awful tasting drinks from a can.  (Yuk and double yuk)!

It was sad watching him waste away into nothing but even sadder was how the simple things in life could just not be enjoyed anymore.  Even the pleasure of eating was robbed from him (but I know that having a frosty healthy shake over a room tempurature liquid canned meal would have been much more appealing to his palette).

My dad loved the taste of egg nog and I bet he would have loved this recipe:  2 scoops of vanilla protein shake mix, 1/2 of a banana, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of crushed ice blended together in a blender.

I truly believe that super-charged nutrition doesn't have to taste bad.  And neither should you.

One of my favorite shakes is called the peppermint patty shake.  You take 2 scoops of chocolate protein shake mix and add crushed ice, water, and a few drops of peppermint extract.  Blend in a blender until thick and icy.  YUM!

I don't know about you, but I believe that protein shakes can be a complement to any healthy diet - especially one that is health focused and nutritionally sound.  The time savings and convenience alone make it a worthwhile alternative to cooking for at least one meal a day.

What about you?  Are you ready to give protein shakes a try?
