INSIDE BOBBY EKE WORLD WITH GOODLIFE
It is commonly said that Man proposes, but God disposes. When Bobby John Eke ventured into a profession mostly dominated by women in Nigeria fifteen years ago, some then would have called him a joker, considering the fact that it wasn’t then a common practice among the male folk.
Though a graduate of Forestry, research and management, today he is an accomplished hair dresser with a large clientele base that cuts across Ministers, governors’ wives, fashionistas, top models and students. Do you remember Agbani Darego’s Hairstyle at the 2001 Miss World Beauty pageant? Yeah, Bobby was the Man behind it.
Describing himself as a Corrective Beautician and the head of Technical Crew, he is the CEO of Bobby Signature, whose business is making women look beautiful.
One would wonder why he ventured into the hairdressing profession, but for Bobby, hairdressing is not a gender thing, but a work of art. He further explains that the Artistic nature in him, and drive to make things beautiful inspired him into being a hairdresser. Also, the fact that his father encouraged him fully was also an added motivation.
Looking back in his fifteen years into the beauty industry, the Corrective Beautician says though there have been ups and downs, so far it’s been good. For him choosing a career isn’t just about what people will think, but who you are and what you are passionate about. He further adds that there’s a need for more counsellors in the Nigerian educational System to guide kids into choosing their future careers.
Though there have been a number of styles attached to him, Bobby describes his artistic ability to bring out the individual in his Clients as his strong point that has earned him a great repute in the field over years. For him, hair dressing is about style. The Client’s features, and personality should determine the kind of hairstyle she should wear.
On his assessment about fashion and beauty in Nigeria, he says beauty in Nigeria has come to stay, as it has become an uppermost priority in every woman’s life.
Currently, he is working on his new line of hair accessories, (wigs and weavons) which will soon be launched into the Nigerian market. Aside resuming in his office by 10am to attend to his clients, he also does photoshoots, bridals and research.
Outside making women beautiful, Bobby exercises about 4 times a week, he loves reading especially motivational books and magazines with his favorite authors as Francine Rivers and John Grisham.
As a devoted Christian, Bobby does a lot of Spiritual Cleansing and Soul searching. For him he draws his inspiration from God, whom he describes as the One who has given him The Midas touch to everything he does. He also draws his inspiration from the fact that he never wants to lack anything, so this keeps him up and doing as he gives his all to his work.
Though the fair good looking beautician is not yet married because he says he has not yet met his better half. For him marriage is not a thing to be rushed into, he however adds that he is very opened to marriage and desires to be happily married soon .Bobby also gave the hint that there’s Someone special presently in his life .
For Bobby he is drawn to people who are hardworking and focused, this he revealed has built his business over the years. He also laments that the breakdown of moral values and craze for wealth among youths have made most of them lost focus.
As a lover of beauty, Bobby’s favorite colour is black, because for him black is calm, clean, and sharp. This he attributes as his reason for choosing black work cloth for members of his Staff. For Bobby, the sight of black in the colorfully designed Saloon calms down customers and gives them room to see what Bobby Signature has to offer.
A patriotic Nigerian, Bobby is optimistic that Nigeria would rise again. His chosen slogan for Nigeria is “Canaan of our Time” because Nigeria is the land flowing with milk and honey.
