What You Need to Do Prior to Your Spray Tan Appointment
When a client calls you to obtain a spray tan, it is imperative that you tell them exactly what they need to do prior to their appointment. When you speak to your client over the phone, first find out if they've had spray tanning done before. If they have not, suggest that they come in for a test patch to be sprayed on them to gauge any reactions.
When your client calls to make a spray tan appointment, there are a <a href="http://tanningbusiness.info/go/tanningsuccess">few simple steps</a> they need to do before their appointment. The following is a list of items they need to know:
• Pre-tan Skin Prep: Ask your client to exfoliate completely, paying close attention to the hands, elbows, tops of feet, ankles and knees. Let them know that the smoother the skin, the longer the tan will last and the more even it will be.
• Hair Removal: To minimize irritation, hair removal should be completed after exfoliation. Shaving should be kept to at least 8 hours prior to the appointment and not done again until about 2 days after the tan. When shaving after the tan, your client needs to know that they need a sharp new razor for each shave, because dull razors can shave off the skin where the tan is. In addition, depilatory use and waxing should be done a couple of days prior to the spray tan and halted thereafter until a couple days prior to the next appointment because waxing can remove the tan's color.
• Skin Care at Appointment: Let your client know that their skin needs to be completely free of body sprays, oils, perfumes, moisturizers and make-up. It is especially important to let them know that they can't have any deodorant on. Deodorant has a high potential of turning the skin green when sprayed with tanning solution.
• Appropriate Clothing at Appointment: Dark clothing is necessary so that the bronzer will not stain the clothes. Loose clothing, as well, is necessary to minimize bronzer transfer as well as minimize sweating. Let your client know that their clothing choice while being tanned is completely up to them. Have them think if they want tan lines or not and choose their clothing accordingly.
• Recommended: It may sound a little strange but ask your client the <a href="http://tanningbusiness.info/go/tanningsuccess">reason they're getting the tan</a>. If the tan is for a special occasion, such as a wedding, it may affect the timing of their appointment. For example, it's recommended to spray brides at least 3 days prior to their wedding because nervous perspiring can potentially leak the color visibly onto a white dress even after their first or even second shower.
• Post-tan Care: Let your client know before the appointment that they won't be able to take a shower for at least 8 hours and have them stay away from any sweat-causing activities until the tan is fully developed. In addition, they will need to know to avoid washing their hands as well as avoid splashing water up their arms until after they shower the first time.
